This text sets out the role of the training captain for all those pilots who are, or aspire to be, participating in the flying training activity. The book should also interest some trainees as it covers the qualities required and the content of training, aims and methods-theory.
Technological advances in modem aircraft and their operation have prompted airline and regulatory authorities to look again at training methods. The importance of human factors and resource management as keys to flight safety, have focused attention on how to improve overall training effectiveness. This book is a comprehensive guide, offering new techniques of training, learning and teaching in the airline environment. It also outlines some of the challenges facing the modem airline pilot. Combining the teaching principles relevant to jet transport training, the book also looks at selection, skill acquisition, and reasons for success or failure; at the basis for good instruction, briefings and the role of the training pilot. It gives special emphasis to teaching methods and techniques, and thus provides an all-round introduction to airline pilot training and self-study course for trainers, potential trainers and trainees. The authors have drawn not only on their current line experience, but also on other published sources to examine and explain many of the aspects and issues of professional flying training including LOFT, Human Factors, CRM, AQP and TQP.
The contents should be familiar to training pilots worldwide. They should also provide an insight for all airline pilots, aspiring airline pilots, and indeed all who are interested or concerned with the operation of modem jet transport aircraft.
