For the fuel cycle of accelerator-driven systems so-called advanced fuels are envisaged. These advanced fuels are characterised by a high content of plutonium and minor actinides, are preferably uranium-free and will be irradiated to relatively high burnup to achieve a high extent of transmutation. In order to select the appropriate fuel material (metal, oxide, nitride, etc.) and the fuel form (pellet, particle) the effects of the choice of the reactor coolant (gas or liquid metal) and, in case of a multiple recycle strategy, the possibility of reprocessing must be taken into account. In the present report the aspects of fuel fabrication, fuel behaviour and fuel processing are discussed. Also a review of made of the required infrastructure for development of such fuels.
