Implementing energy-efficient CPUs and peripherals as well as reducing resource consumption have become emerging trends in computing. As computers increase in speed and power, their energy issues become more and more prevalent. The need to develop and promote environmentally friendly computer technologies and systems has also come to the forefront in computing research. A pioneering publication for researchers in computer science and engineering, Handbook of Energy-Aware and Green Computing is one of the first to present a comprehensive account of recent research in energy-aware and green computing. Edited by the co-chairs of the International Green Computing Conference, this handbook incorporates fundamental knowledge from all related areas, including circuit and component design, software, operating systems, networking, mobile computing, and data centers. It also discusses up-to-date research on many aspects of power-aware computing at the component, software, and system levels.

Ishfaq Ahmad is a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. An IEEE fellow, Dr. Ahmad is a co-founder of the International Green Computing Conference and the founding editor-in-chief of Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems. He is also an editor of the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, and Hindawi Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research focuses on parallel and distributed computing systems and their applications, optimization algorithms, multimedia systems, video compression, and energy-aware green computing. Sanjay Ranka is a professor in the Department of Computer Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. A fellow of the IEEE and AAAS, Dr. Ranka is the associate editor-in-chief of the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing and an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Computing, Sustainable Computing: Systems and Informatics, Knowledge and Information Systems, and the International Journal of Computing. His research interests include energy efficient computing, high performance computing, data mining, and informatics.
