A major step forward was achieved during 2004 in the modernisation of the GELINA facility. Large parts of the klystron modulators feeding sections 2 and 3 of the accelerator were replaced by modern equipment, including cabinets, cabling and the interlock system. This required a major work in the modulator hall and the machine was not operational during four months. Since the restart in December 2004 the operation became significantly more reliable, stable and reproducible. This encourages us to continue with the modernisation and preparatory work is presently ongoing for modernising also the first section of the accelerator. It is worth mentioning that most of the work is being done in-house including also the modernisation of the control system, with a minimum of interruption in the operation.
