Leadership insights from one of history’s most influential voices.

It has been over 50 years since the death of Martin Luther King Jr. and yet his presence and words continue to influence our culture and impact the lives of millions of people, young and old, of all colors and backgrounds.  There is no doubt that he embodied a different kind of leadership in his time and achieved a level of influence few would have thought possible for black man born in Atlanta just before the great depression.

Now, leaders can reflect on carefully curated passages from some of Martin Luther King Jr.’s most recognized speeches and be inspired to learn from them and transform their own leadership journeys.  Robert F. Smith, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Vista Capital provides his own insights and experiences after each passage on how themes like “The Beloved Community”, “Economic Justice”, and “Two Americas” played such a central role in his own leadership journey and why they are so important for leaders to understand today.

Robert F. Smith is an American investor, inventor, engineer, philanthropist and entrepreneur. He is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, which is focused on exclusively investing in enterprise software, data and technology-enabled businesses.  Throughout his life, Smith’s commitment to philanthropy and equity has never wavered, and finding ways to make a difference in the communities where he lives and works is central to his character and approach to life. During his 2019 commencement address at Morehouse College, a Historically Black College, Smith surprised the graduating class by pledging to pay off the entire class’ student loan debt — a $34 million gift that helped nearly 400 graduates. He is also a major donor to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Student Freedom Initiative (SFI) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation, among many others.
