The subjects or approaches have ranged from philosophy to socio-linguistics, from the history of the telephone to the audiences for televised serials, from the sociology of journalists to the economics of cultural industries, from the analysis of daily interaction to that of the role of writing in Eastern civilization, or from the effects on work organization of the advent of computers to the methodology of research on media audiences. This book contains a balance of chapters drawn from recent issues of the parent journal, aimed at providing a non-francophone audience with some of the best French thinking on all aspects of communications. "Reseaux" journal in English is published twice yearly. The original French title continues bi-monthly publication under the auspices of the Centre National d'Etudes des telecommunications, its issues being thematically constructed.
