Thus, this book will also enhance the literature and discourse on sub-regional organisations and their path towards conflict transformation on the African continent.

Noluthando Phungula holds a PhD in conflict and peace studies, and a master’s degree in international relations, from the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. She has worked as a lecturer of international relations and political science at the University of Zululand and also at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), both in South Africa. She has also worked in the local government sphere as an advisor at the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), where she served on numerous intergovernmental and provincial committees. Her research interests include conflict transformation, security and peace studies, Chinese-South African relations and governance issues in local government.
