This pattern card enables a basic voice classification of any subject, providing a guideline with useful information for voice education and voice therapy, as demonstrated by a selection of 152 figures and 72 tables, including some exceptional longitudinal phonetograms of actors and singers across a wide age range.

Hugo Lycke has worked as vocal coach and speech and voice therapist for many European music conservatoires and opera and musical theatre companies. He specialized in casting and testing, education and voice therapy, and obtained Master’s degrees in Leisure Studies, Theatre Sciences, Dance Research, and Gerontology from the Free University of Brussels. Intrigued by the need for an objective method of voice classification in singers, he wrote his doctoral thesis at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, proving for the first time the existence of three natural voice groups for each gender. He has presented his new methodology of voice classification at more than 100 conferences, seminars, and workshops in different countries.
