Chris Alden is a Senior Lecturer in the International Relations Department at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has previously worked at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and Emmanuel College, Massachusetts. Garth le Pere is Executive Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue, in Johannesburg. Before this he held academic posts in the United States. He has also held appointments as a researcher in local government (Urban Foundation), senior industrial relations officer (Anglo American Corporation), executive director (United States-South Africa Leadership Exchange Programme), and public administration consultant (New York City Administration).
