Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: This study aims at assessing the cases of human trafficking from Hadiya to South Africa. It looks at the factors that contribute to the initiation and perpetuation of human trafficking; the positive and negative impacts of human trafficking in Hadiya zone; the combating mechanism and the challenges in curtailing it. The researcher employed qualitative research methods. Regarding data collection structured and semi-structured interviews, observation and focus group discussions were used. Theories dealing with the initiation and perpetuation of migration and human trafficking were reviewed. Transnational human trafficking in Ethiopia in general and in Hadiya in particular is not exhaustively studied. The limited studies in the area did not address the intra-continental human trafficking from Hadiya to South Africa at all. They mainly focused on the Ethio-middle east transnational human trafficking.Findings from this study show that socio-political, economic, cultural, legal factors, and institutional problems, security challenges, and other factors as the major causes that contribute for human trafficking in the study areas. It also shows the negative impacts of human trafficking including human right violation, security challenges, and debt bondage. Positively, migration enables the victims to get remittance, educational opportunity, transfer of know-how, and cultural integration. Moreover, the study reveals the prevention, protection, rehabilitation and prosecution mechanisms on curtailing human trafficking in Hadiya. By the same token, absence of clear legislations, institutional problems, lack of national and international co-ordination were identified as challenges of combating human trafficking. In nutshell, this study ignites further studies, and intervention of policy makers on the problem of human trafficking in Hadiya zone in particular and the country at large.
