Geriatric Engineering is the science of applying engineering concepts to solve mechanical and control systems deficiencies that arise as people age and aplying these to assistive living environments extending independent living. The textbook starts with an introduction to the field of human aging. It examines how human aging is viewed and how society responds to the issues of aging. This is followed by an introduction to system design techniques of assistive technologies to foster independent living. Additional sections include primers on microprocessor and sensors interfacing to facilitate these deigns, as well as wound care and ostomy maintenance issues to ensure independent living.

David Lubliner is a member of the faculty at a northeastern university where he runs a Medical Informatics program that he developed a decade earlier. He developed and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Medical Informatics. He received his PhD in Information Systems and has graduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science. He is the author of Biomedical Informatics, Published Nov 2015 by CRC press. He currently is part of a team developing a handheld medical scanner and is Director of a Medical Informatics Research Lab and is a regular reviewer at the NSF. Prior to teaching he worked for ten years at fortune 500 company as a Divisional Vice President of an Architecture - Computer Security group and before that worked as an engineer on the Patriot Missile system. Evadne Adina Harrison-Madu, Ph.D., MSN, RN. Is the Chairperson/Assistant Professor Division of Nursing & Allied Health Essex County College. Dr. Harrison-Madu has over 30 years nursing experience as a clinical nurse manager, a community health nurse, and gerontology experience as a RN in the CORAM resource network and in Cabrini Certified Home Health Agency and publications in education and nursing field.
