The point of departure of all the contributions is the prestige lecture by Alan Culpepper where he argues for bringing Biblical material into discussion with modern scientific insights relating to creation and origin.

R. Alan Culpepper is Professor of New Testament, and founding dean of McAfee School of Theology, Mercer University, Atlanta, USA. He has published various monographs, for instance, Anatomy of the Fourth Gospel (1983), as well as numerous articles. Jan G. van der Watt is Professor in New Testament at Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands. He published various books, like Family of the King (2000), and edited volumes on New Testament Soteriology, Eschatology and Ethics. He is currently also editor of RBL.
