While Celts remained relatively isolated in the British Isles, they developed unique sexual customs. Both sexes had relationships with multiple partners, but after the fall of the Roman Empire, Christians challenged the Druid beliefs. This book explores Celtic sexuality, war, politics and law.
While the Celts remained relatively isolated in the British Isles, they developed unique sexual customs and practices. Morality and guilt were not linked to sexual behaviour and both sexes enjoyed sexual relationships with multiple partners. The laws reflected not what people should do but what they did do. However, the Celtic way of life could not exist in isolation. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Saxon invaders swept across Britain. Christian missionaries established outposts in the Celtic lands, competing with the traditional beliefs of the druids. The Celtic view of sexuality gradually changed. This book explores the relationship between sexuality and such areas as war, politics, law and spirituality.
