James H. McMillan is Professor of Education in the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University and Director of the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium. He obtained his doctorate from Northwestern University and masters from Michigan State University. Dr. McMillan has also published Research in Education: Evidence-Based Inquiry; Understanding and Evaluating Educational Research, Sage Handbook of Research on Classroom Assessment, Assessment Essentials for Standards-Based Education, and Classroom Assessment: Principles and Practice for Effective Standards-Based Instruction in addition to more than sixty journal articles. His current research interests include classroom assessment, grading, student motivation, and the impact of high-stakes testing on schools and students.
