Dr. Leiyu Shi is Professor of health policy and management from JohnsHopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health Department of HealthPolicy and Management. He is also Director of Johns Hopkins Primary Care PolicyCenter. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for Equity in Health. He received his doctoral education from University of CaliforniaBerkeley majoring in health policy and services research. He also has a mastersin business administration focusing on finance. Dr. Shi’s research and practice focus onprimary care, hospitals, health care systems, community health centers, health disparities, and vulnerablepopulations. He has conducted extensive studies about the association betweenprimary care and health outcomes, particularly on the role of primary care inmediating the adverse impact of income inequality on health outcomes. Dr. Shiis also one of the developers of the Johns Hopkins Primary CareAssessment Tools that have been widely used internationally to measure primaryhealth care performance at the individual, practice, and system levels. Dr. Shi has consulted extensively for hospitals, health care systems, and international agencies. He is a well-known expert on innovative practices and systems change. Dr.Shi is the author of twelve textbooks and over 250 scientific journalarticles. He is named by Thomson Reuters in 2014 as among the top cited (and therefore most influential) scientists in the world in the area of SocialScience general. James A. Johnson, PhD, MPA, MScis a medical social scientist who specializes in international health and organization/systems development. He is a Full Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Central Michigan University where he teaches courses in comparative health systems, organizational behavior, and health systems thinking. Dr. Johnson is the former Chairman of the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina. Heis a veryactive researcher and health science writer with over 100 journal articles and19 books published. One book which is read worldwide, is titled, Comparative Health Systems: Global Perspectives where he and co-researchers analyzed the health systems of 20 different countries. He is also the co-author of the recently published Health Systems Thinking: A Primer and Essentials of Managing Public Health Organizations. Eighteen of Professor Johnson’s books have been selected for the permanent collection of the National Library of Medicine. Dr. Johnson is an elected Member of the Governing Council of the American Public Health Association (APHA). He is past-editor of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Journal of Healthcare Management and currently a Contributing Editor for the Journal of Health and Human Services Administration, and global health editor for the Journal of Human Security and Resilience. He works closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland and ProWorld Service Corps in Belize, Central America on international projects and student involvement. He is a regular delegate to the World Health Congress and a member of the Global Health Council. His work and travels have taken him to over 45 countries thus far. Dr. Johnson has been an invited lecturer at Oxford University (England); Beijing University (China); University of Dublin (Ireland); University of Colima (Mexico); St. George’s University (Grenada) and University of Pretoria (South Africa), as well as, universities, associations, and health organizations within the U.S., including visiting professorships at University of Michigan, Auburn University, and St. George’s University (Grenada). Additionally, he has served on many boards including the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Diabetes Trust Foundation; American Public Health Governing Council; Board of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA); Advisory Board of the Alliance for the Blind and Visually Impaired; Board President of Charleston Low Country AIDS Services; Advisory Board of the Joint Africa Working Group; Advisory Board of the Center for Collaborative Health Leadership; and Board of Advisors for Health Systems of America.Dr. Johnson completed his Ph.D. at Florida State University where he specialized in health policy and organization development.
