Uppercase is a quarterly design magazine that has been recognized for its design excellence, most notably as a finalist in the Society of Publication Designers’ Magazine of the Year category alongside Wired, Esquire, GQ, Bon Appetit, and the New York Times Magazine. It has a small but dedicated subscriber base of 2,300 subscribers (and a print run of 3,000). It’s published in January, April, July, and October. Janine Vangool is a graphic designer who opened the UPPERCASE gallery in Calgary in 2005. She now publishes books, the magazine, a blog that averages 26,000 unique visitors a month, a Flickr photostream that’s been viewed over 385,000 times, and a Twitter feed closing in on 10,000 followers. Janine is currently working on a book collection of typewriter memorabilia, The Typewriter: a Graphic History of the Beloved Machine, due out this Fall 2013, which she’ll be funding through Kickstarter.
