Its main headings represent core topics in basic surgical examinations. In its first edition it was used as a revision text for FRCS Part I, but now that the UK examination will in future consist of a single integrated component (that is, there will not be a separate Basic Science Part 1), the book includes systemic as well as basic pathology.
