This is followed by practical teaching suggestions for engaging students with activities in which movement is mediated through sound (e.g., drum beats) and music. Closing chapters introduce non-pitched percussion instruments along with activities in which children engage in multisensory experiences by playing instruments--musical activities described in preceding chapters are combined with stories and drama to create musical narratives. Sheila J. Scott is Associate Professor of Music Education at Brandon University. Dr. Sheila J. Scott's work has been published in several journals including Contributions to Music Education, Music Educators Journal, and General Music Today. Her main areas of research are assessment in music education, constructivist perspectives for music education and music education for all children, with an emphasis on those with autism spectrum disorder.
