Teachers and child care providers gain the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions on helping children develop the intrinsic motivation to move throughout their lives.

Taking into account the growing obesity epidemic and the expanding relationship between physical activity, music, and academic performance, this new book gives readers the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions to guide and motivate children toward a lifetime of movement. More than a listing of activities, this resource presents in-depth information on physical activity and music that allows the early childhood educator to match motivating physical activity and music lessons to the developmental level of the child. The guiding principles throughout the book focus on meeting individual needs, reciprocating environment and curriculum, integrating movement and music, involving family and community, and providing guidance through assessment and standards.

Motivating activities coupled with sound background knowledge: More than just a book of activities, this guide thoroughly covers the background knowledge and skills needed for understanding how to make the activities work in children’s lives.
Guiding principles for moving through the material: The theme carried throughout the book focuses on meeting individual needs, reciprocating environment and curriculum, integrating movement and music, involving family and community, and getting guidance through assessment and standards.
Learning and understanding through example: Chapter opening stories illustrate the concepts, M 2 Fun examples appear throughout, and end of chapter physical activities and/or music teach the standards.
