-- The text that defined the liberal arts chemistry course, Chemistry for Changing Times remains the most visually appealing and readable introduction on the subject. Now available with MasteringChemistry®, the Thirteenth Edition increases its focus on student engagement—with revised “Have You Ever Wondered?” questions, new Learning Objectives in each chapter that are linked to end of chapter problems in the text and to MasteringChemistry questions, and expanded Green Chemistry content. Abundant applications and examples fill each chapter, and material is updated throughout to mirror the latest scientific developments in a fast-changing world. Compelling chapter opening photos, a focus on Green Chemistry, and the “It DOES Matter!” feature reflect current events and enable students to relate to the text more readily.

John W. Hill received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas. As an organic chemist, he has published more than 50 papers, most of which have an educational bent. He has authored or coauthored several introductory level chemistry textbooks, all of which have had multiple editions published. He has also presented over 60 papers at national conferences, many relating to science education. He has received several awards for outstanding teaching and has long been active in the American Chemical Society, both locally and nationally. Now professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin—River Falls, Hill authored the first edition of Chemistry for Changing Times in 1972. Revising and updating this book has been a major focus of his life for four decades. Terry W. McCreary received his B.S from St. Francis University, his M.S. from University of Georgia, and his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. He has taught chemistry at Murray State University since 1988, and was presented with the Regents Excellence in Teaching Award in 2008. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Kentucky Academy of Science, and has served as Technical Editor for the Journal of Pyrotechnics. In his spare time he designs, builds, and flies rockets with the Tripoli Rocketry Association; he was elected president of the association in 2010. McCreary is the author of several laboratory manuals; General Chemistry with John Hill, Ralph Petrucci, and Scott Perry; and Experimental Composite Propellant, a fundamental treatise on the preparation and properties of solid rocket propellant.
