Kyra Kyrkland is one of the world's most talented dressage riders and in this book she explains the unique system of training that has brought her repeated success with numerous horses from novice to Grand Prix.Step-by-step she guides the rider through her basic ABC, revealing how she teaches horses to work happily on the lightest aids possible.
She stresses the importance of two-way communication between horse and rider and that the training system must at all times be fair.
Kyra explains how to develop true straightness, bend and flexion and gives the reader her formula for establishing a correct rein contact. the importance of the rider's position, symmetry, balance and use of the seat are also discussed in full.
Once the horse understands his ABC, Kyra explains how he can move on to learn about:

Leg-yielding, turn on the forehand, and rein-back
Collected lateral work; shoulder-in, travers, renvers, half-pass
Canter work, including counter-canter
Flying changes
Improving the gaits, outline and degree of collection
Zigzag, half passes, pirouettes, piaffe and passage.

Kyra firmly believes that when a horse and rider a re working together, not only should the picture look easy, but it should also be easy for both parties — her book explains precisely how to achieve this.

Kyra Kyrklund has been at the top of world-class dressage for many years. She has trained and successfully competed 14 horses at Grand Prix standard—an outstanding achievement, which few riders could ever emulate. Her internationally known horses include Matador, Edinburg, Flyinge Amiral, Master, and Max. In her native Finland, Kyrklund has been National Dressage Champion 11 times, and she has taken part in six successive Olympic Games. She runs her own dressage center in the south of England. Jytte Lemkow is a former international dressage judge, an experienced rider, equestrian journalist, photographer, and commercial designer.
