Paul Esterle has wide experience in the marine industry. He has built boats ranging from canoes to hovercraft, and performed repairs and restorations on boats of all types, working in wood, epoxy, electrical, plumbing, rigging, and engine systems. He has worked as a parts specialist and in sales and marketing for Boat/US and West Marine, and runs his own mail order business, selling books, clothing, videos, CDs, and e-books. The author is technical editor and a regular columnist for Small Craft Advisor and a regular columnist for Nor'easter, a Chesapeake-region boating magazine. He also writes columns for Voyaging, and has published in Living Aboard, SAIL, BoatWorks, Dockside, Santana, Long Island Boating World, Lakeland Boating, Boatbuilder, Good Old Boat, Mid-America Boating and Blue Water Sailing. He self-published a collection of articles from Nor'easter under the title Capt’n Pauley’s Boat Repairs & Upgrades, has a second book in the works, and has produced several CDs and videos. Esterle is a Past Lieutenant Commander (and current member) of the U.S. Power Squadrons, and holds a grade in Advanced Piloting. He is an instructor for the U.S. Power Squadrons Safe Boating Classes, and gives seminars at the Annapolis Sailboat Show, for Boat/US, West Marine, and other boating organizations.
