In Seashore Life of India, B.F. Chhapgar, renowned marine biologist, explores the habits and forms of the creatures that live, survive, and reproduce along the seashores of India.
Easy to read and fully illustrated, with a separate colour section, Seashore Life of India has different sections on invertebrates, vertebrates, and plants. Chhapgar first details the habits and forms of invertebrate life forms like sponges, sea anemone, segmented worms, crabs, snails, and the intelligent octopus and cuttlefish. He then describes vertebrates like shallow water fishes, snakes, and birds that live along the seashore. Finally, he discusses shells and floating life forms
like the poisonous Portuguese man-of-war and the beautiful circular Porpita, as well as plants like algae and mangroves that have made the seashore their home. In addition, the book contains an informative Introduction that discusses when, where, and how to observe seashore life, a glossary, and a section on
further reading. Part of the 'WWF-OUP Nature Guides' series, though Seashore Life of India has been especially designed for younger readers, it will appeal equally to older readers including parents and teachers, and nature lovers.
