The Diesel Engine Manual for the Rest of UsIf you were surprised to learn that your boat’s engine has no spark plugs, you’re not alone. If you’re like the rest of us, you want to know how your engine works and how to keep it working, but you haven’t come across a simple, nontechnical treatment of the subject. Until now, that is. Designed especially for non-mechanically inclined boatowners, Know Your Boat's Diesel Engine is clear, direct, and richly illustrated to show you what your engine’s components look like and how they work. Developed by the Royal Yachting Association--whose seamanship courses are considered the worldwide gold standard for boating education--the book has been fully revised and adapted for North American boatowners. You’ll find:

Simple yet complete information on how your engine works and the half-dozen things to check first when it fails to work as it shouldEasy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairsEverything powerboaters and diesel-auxiliary sailboat owners need to know to use their engines with confidence

Andrew Simpson has been continuously involved in the marine industry since he enrolled at a pre-sea training ship as a boy of 13. At the age of 17 he became a deck officer in the British Mercantile Marine, traveling the world until he came ashore six years later to study yacht design, boat building and surveying all of which he has practiced ever since. Andrew is a prolific contributor to many sailing magazines both in the UK and the US, including: Cruising World, Motor Boating and Sailing, and Boat Works. Between 1995 and 2002 he was Associate Editor of Practical Boat Owner Britains biggest selling yachting magazine, at which he remains Consulting Editor, writes a monthly column, and contributes articles on a wide range of technical subjects. He has written several books on boating, lives in Poole, England, and sails Shindig, a light-displacement cutter that he designed, in Atlantic and Mediterranean waters.
