Pam's two passions are crafts and travel. After studying Fine Arts she traveled extensively in Europe. She returned home to South Africa and completed her studies to become an art teacher. After marrying, she and her husband decided to build a catamaran and sail around the world. They sailed across the Atlantic from Durban, South Africa, to Brazil. Sailing slowly northward, they traveled via the San Blas Islands and through the Panama canal and eventually landed in Peru where they stayed for two years working on an irrigation project. While in Peru she studied the archaeology of the area and traveled to many of the archaeological sites. The colors of the ancient weavings found in the Paracas desert still influence her work. While her two children were growing up she started a Craft Market in her hometown, Somerset West, which has become one of the best in South Africa, providing a platform for excellent craft work. She lives near Cape Town and dyes and prints fabric in her home studio, which she sells regularly at quilt shows in England, UK, and once at the International Quilt Festival and Market in Houston. She also volunteer teaches different crafts to disadvantaged teenagers because she feels that it will make a difference to their lives. Other members of the Craft Market are invited to do short courses like glass bead making, card and felt making and pinhole photography. She writes articles on quiltmaking for Patchwork and Quilting, UK. Her two previous books were The South African Guide to Fabric Screen Printing published by Struik in South Africa and New Holland Press in the UK, and Beadwork a World Guide (co-authored with Caroline Crabtree) published by Thames and Hudson in the UK, Rizzoli in the USA, and translated into French, German, and Japanese.
