How the Ryder Cup was won.
The Ryder Cup is one of the most thrilling spectacles in sport -- an intensely dramatic contest founded on fierce rivalry, with a glorious history of nail-biting drama and truly unforgettable team performances. Won by a record-equalling margin, the 2006 Ryder Cup at Ireland's K Club was, for the European Team, one of the most glorious of all. A key member of the team both in 2006 and over the last decade, no-one knows the Ryder Cup better than Darren Clarke. In Heroes All, Darren delivers an enthralling, deeply personal account of how the Ryder Cup was won, affording the reader an unprecedented behind-the-scenes glimpse of the ultimate golf tournament. Featuring day-by-day narratives -- from hitting the first practise ball, to hitting the bar during the emotional victory celebrations -- and Darren's pen portraits of all the players who took part, as well as a full history of the tournament, this is the definitive accompaniment to one of the greatest sporting events of recent years. Yet this is not just an account of on-course triumph. Just weeks before the 2006 Ryder Cup, Darren Clarke's wife, Heather, lost her long battle with cancer.
Inspired by the support of team-mates and opposition players alike, Darren made himself available, and was selected as captain Ian Woosnam's final wild card choice. The rest is history. Both moving and entertaining, this story of loss, recovery and victory, Heroes All is a memorable testament to sport -- and sportsmanship -- at its very best.

Darren Clarke was born in Northern Ireland in 1968. In 2000, he became the first European to win one of the World Golf Championships events. He went on to become the only player, apart from Woods, to have more than one WGC success to his name when he won the 2003 NEC Invitational in Ohio by four shots. In 2002, he also became the only player to win the English Open three times. He is also one of few players to have beaten Tiger Woods in a 36 hole Match Play final (Accenture 2000).
