Die Go-Betweens formierten sich 1978 als sich die beiden Studenten Grant McLennan und Robert Forster an der Queensland Universität in Australien trafen. Anders als viele andere Bands schrieben und spielten die Go-Betweens von Anfang an formvollendete gitarren-orientierte Pop-Songs - schön und zeitlos. Nach einer Trennung Anfang der 90er Jahre hatten beide eine bewegte Solo-Karriere. Eine gemeinsame Tour im Jahr 1999 wurde der Auslöser zu einer Reunion. 2005 erschien ihr neuntes und letztes Album "Oceans Apart". Dieses Album, sowie die weltweite Tour erfuhren größte Beachtung und in Australien wurden The Go-Betweens erstmals mit einem renommierten ARIA Award bedacht. Völlig unerwartet verstarb am 6. Mai 2006 der großartige Grant McLennan.
Das "Go-Betweens Songbook" wird mit einem Vorwort von Robert Foster eingeleitet, dem eine umfangreiche History der Band, geschrieben von dem renommierten Journalisten Klaus Walter, folgt. Noten und Liedtexte zu 26 der besten und populärsten Songs wie "Lee Remick", "Cattle and Cane", "Streets of Your Town" oder "Finding You" sowie eine Discografie und Fotos (teilweise bisher unveröffentlicht) runden dieses umfangreiche Fanbuch ab.
