Seven miles off the coast of Massachusetts, the charming island of Martha s Vineyard is a beloved destination for summer visitors who come to swim, sunbake, and feast on fried seafood, farmstand fruit pies, and mouthwatering lobster rolls. Many coastal places have this draw, but few have visitors return year after year, decade after decade, generation after generation as they do here. What is it that makes Martha's Vineyard so enticing? The answer almost always includes food. And that s part of the island s magic. In its 100 square miles, Martha s Vineyard is home to over 100 restaurants and cafes, 50 farms, six bakeries, five fish markets, three coffee roasters, two breweries, and one (very popular) farmers market. A world-class cooking and eating destination, with something new and exciting to discover around every corner. This cookbook is an edible tour across the Island s six towns, with signature appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks from each locale. Start the day with warm Cranberry Maple Oat Scones, then transport yourself to the seaside with Brown Butter Lobster Rolls, Roasted Clams with Hot Sauce Butter, and Bloody Mary Tuna with a side of Corn and Heirloom Tomato Salad with Honey Herb Vinaigrette. Cool off with an Agricultural Fair favorite Espresso Floater as you explore the Island through the eyes of summer residents and well-loved locals who share their dream itineraries in the Seven Perfect Days spreads. Beyond New England s culinary treasures, Martha s Vineyard is also home to a diverse year-round community, whose members bring their own flavors to the table, from traditional Clambakes and Jamaican Fried Chicken to Portuguese Holy Ghost Soup and luscious Brazilian Flan, just as deserving an exploration as the hunt for the best chowder. The Martha s Vineyard Cookbook makes the perfect keepsake or gift for first-time visitors, summer regulars, and year-round Vineyarders alike.
Julia Blanter is a marketing director, content creator, passionate home cook, and year-round Martha's Vineyard resident with deep connections to the island's culinary community. Born in the colorful, multicultural landscape of Sydney, Australia, she has lived in New Caledonia, the Netherlands, London, Brooklyn, and, more recently, her island home of Martha's Vineyard. Juli Vanderhoop is the owner of Orange Peel Bakery, a beloved bakery featured in the New York Times, and on PBS and Serious Eats. She is a Wampanoag leader and outspoken force for the Indigenous community and Martha's Vineyard, serving on a number of boards, including Island Grown Initiative, and is a Select Board member of her town of Aquinnah.
