Helgi Torfason, PhD, is an Icelandic geologist and ex-director of the Icelandic Museum of Natural History. The main scope of his research has been in the fields of geothermal exploration, geologcal mapping and geological conservation. He has worked in Iceland and in Kenya, exploring geothermal areas prior to utilization. As well as numerous specialist reports, he has published several papers, chapters in books and geological maps.Richard Pokorný, PhD, is a Czech palaeontologist, speleologist, traveller, and promoter of popular science. He has long been involved in scientific activities in northern Europe with a focus on Iceland and the Faroe Islands. For this purpose, he founded the Institute Julius von Payer for Subarctic and Arctic Research at the University of Jan Evangelista in Ústí nad Labem (UJEP), Czechia, bringing together specialists on biotopes in the Earth's cold regions. He has authored eight books and over 90 journal articles.
