Projects range from simple ‘1 star’ jobs, suitable for all abilities, up to more in-depth ‘5 star’ jobs calling for more experience. Each project is fully illustrated and easy to follow.
The MX-5 Mk3 was launched in 2005, a radical departure from the models that had gone before. Offering a new suspension and chassis design, everything about the car had changed. Recently the cars have experienced an explosion of interest with new and old owners alike appreciating these fantastic cars as the hidden gem in the range.
This book will walk you through a range of DIY projects, from simple ‘single star’ jobs through to more complex tasks, but nothing in this book is beyond the scope of the home mechanic. Fully illustrated step-by-step instructions will guide you through each task.
Projects include engine work from tuning to repair following failure, bodywork from modifications to dealing with the ravages of rust, interior modifications from fitting later parts to earlier cars, and upgrading sound systems.
Through detailed descriptions and photographs this book will take you on a journey to get to know your car better and create the car you want.
The author of this guide has been involved with Mazda MX-5s for many years and has owned more cars than he cares to remember. As a current Mk3 owner he genuinely practises what he preaches, and many of the projects described were performed on his own car.
Oliver Wild grew up in an engineering family in rural Yorkshire, spending evenings in the garage with his father restoring a range of classic cars from MGs to Porsches. Weekends were often spent on windy airfields competing in motorsport events, or mending cars from the previous weekend. Following a successful career in the motor trade, Oliver has over 20 years of restoration experience across a range of marques, being in ‘the game’ for the love of it rather than for the money. He gets more pleasure from rescuing beautiful cars and introducing new people to the hobby than chasing financial gain. Oliver owns an eclectic range of cars and other vintage machinery, ranging from pushbikes to Suffolk Punch lawnmowers! But the Mazda MX-5 has become a staple in his garage, with usually at least one owned by Oliver and his wife Sarah.
