Once the preserve of children, the treehouse is experiencing a renaissance. Today's treehouses are a far cry from the small and unstable affairs you might remember from your childhood. These are beautiful retreats nestled in the branches. Inside and out they are designed with the best materials to offer comfort and repose and fit in with their surroundings, the tree itself becoming a part of the interior. Complete with wonderful views and surrounded by the restful sound of foliage in the breeze the modern treehouse is swiftly becoming a phenomenon. This beautiful book presents an inspirational selection of treehouses, showing just how far people have taken the idea. Including whole complexes connected by rope bridges, treehouse offices, playrooms, and bars, Treehouses shows amazing interiors as well as giving details on how to plan your perfect place in the sky.
John Harris is the founder of PearTree, a treehouse company. He has had a fascination with treehouses since he was a child. His first one built by his father from a pallet and packing case is still fondly remembered. This passion has continued into his adult life, even honeymooning in a tree house in Malaysia. John built his first full scale treehouse 9 years ago for his own children, which is still well used. His sons treehouse caused so much interest from friends and visitors, that it prompted John to test the response from others by placing a very small advertisement in House & Gardens. Not expecting to receive any real enquiries he was astounded when some 300 people jammed his answerphone and letterbox. Seeing the enormous potential in the market, the amateur turned professional with the creation of PearTree. Over the past three years the business has thrived, with demand stretching across Europe from Peterhead in the North of Scotland through to St. Tropez in the South of France.
