She was Director of the Golden Cabinet Teaching and Research Section at the Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine. She is based in Shanghai, China. Dr Mary Garvey is a Senior Lecturer and researcher in the University of Technology Sydney's Chinese medicine degree programs, and a registered practitioner of Chinese acupuncture and herbal medicine. She has published 50 journal and conference papers, books and book chapters in Australia and internationally. She is based in Sydney, Australia.
