An in-depth look at Citroen's idiosyncratic DS, for sixty years a design icon and one of the world's most controversial, radical, idiosyncratic and technically advanced motorcars. This popular book has now been re-issued in revised and updated paperback form.
Available again after a long absence, this book tells the story of the most radical of Citroën’s idiosyncratic offerings, the DS. The car was sensational when it was introduced in 1955; twenty years and 1.45 million cars later it was still technically advanced in relation to most other cars. Revolutionary in driving characteristics and comfort, it remains one of the most innovative cars of all time.
In this book Malcolm Bobbitt, a well-known motoring author and DS owner, gives an in-depth guide to the Citroën DS – its history, design and specifications, as well as valuable advice for buyers and owners. This long overdue revised edition contains much new and updated information.

A member of the Guild of Motoring Writers, Society of Authors and Society of Automotive Historians, for as long as he can remember, Malcolm Bobbitt has been fascinated by cars. With more than thirty motoring books to his credit including marque histories of the Fiat 500 and 600, Rover P4, Volkswagen, Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Silver Spirit, Bentley T-Series and Mulsanne, and post war Hillmans, Malcolm’s output is diverse. His works also encompasses London Taxicabs, British Police Cars, austerity motoring, bubblecars, three-wheelers, motorhomes, British lorries of the 1950s and ’60s as well as buyer’s guides to both baby Fiats and Rolls-Royce & Bentley Silver Shadow & T-Series. He was commissioned to write the biography of W.O. Bentley and a history of Rolls-Royce to commemorate the firm’s 60th anniversary at Crewe. Additionally Malcolm is a regular contributor to several periodicals and newspapers and compiles the motoring pages for a number of ‘county’ magazines. Malcolm lives on the northern edge of the Lake District with his wife Jean. He likes walking, classical music, collecting motoring books and discovering anything and everything that has wheels. He has possessed more old cars than he cares to remember but he does have a very early British-built Citroën DS which he has owned for more than twenty years and which he regularly uses.
