The Jaguar D-Type is the iconic 1950s Jaguar sports racing car that won a hat-trick of Le Mans victories from 1955 to 1957. Revolutionary at the time, the D-Type was designed with aerodynamics in mind, and featured an aluminium monocoque cockpit section, a bag-type fuel tank in the tail, and a dry-sump engine lubrication system. The D-Type first appeared at Le Mans in 1954, finishing second. After winning in 1955 and 1956, D-Types took five of the top six places in 1957. Today, genuine D-Types are highly sought-after, and many examples are still active in historic racing. In February 2014, a 1955 D-Type, with race history, was sold for a record price of £2.7 million. This Manual includes numerous contemporary photographs, in addition to detailed images of various D-types in the workshop today, and input from restoration specialists and engineers. A fascinating insight into a legendary sports racing car.
