Betting guide on how to unearth underrated horses on the Flat. Over 60 well-handicapped three-year-old racehorses to follow in 2016.
The Flat season is just around the corner and Jon Gibby's latest edition of Well-Handicapped Three-Year-Olds promises to be a useful punting tool in the months ahead. The author has selected 65 horses of a certain profile that he believes - having looked at a number of different angles - are rated to win handicaps this year, and he has written a detailed summary on each of them. It is clear these horses have been thoroughly researched and this is far more than just one man's opinion. The first point of reference when compiling the list is said to be the previous year's publication of Two-Year-Olds by Steve Taplin. Gibby also has his own 'Predictive Ratings' (PR) based on, among other things, a combination of averages derived from the records of the trainer, the sire's offspring and the dam's previous offspring. As ever, Gibby provides a comprehensive guide to each horse featured, yet this is by no means a heavy read. It should appeal to punters at all levels. The 2015 edition produced 62 winners during the Flat season and on average the handicap ratings of the recommended horses rose by more than 8lbs.
Many multiple winners were selected such as: American Artist (3), Brittleton (3), Classic Villager (3), Dartmouth (3), Mythical City (3), Night Generation (3), Second Wave (3), Swaheen (3) and Twilight Son (3). Backing each horse in the book every time they ran returned a level stakes profit of +63 points to SP, including winners returned at 33/1 and 16/1.
