The process is shown from initial concept through, specifications and theoretical simulations onto detailed simulation and design of a loudspeaker driver.

Sufficient to give re-assurance that, a design is practical and will perform as expected.
Modern computing power, both software and hardware have progressed to the point that such analysis are now practical for an interested individual or small company.

Today we are fortunate that there is a range of simple tools, which are focussed on individual areas such as: -


2D & 3D CAD, Magnetics, Lumped Parameters Modelling, Mechanical FEA, BEM Modelling as well as Measurement Tools are all readily available and are used throughout the book; both separately and combined to aid the design and modelling of loudspeakers.


Loudspeakers often require a wider range of knowledge than many other fields. Historically people have had little choice but to assemble this knowledge piecemeal from many different sources. This is in spite of loudspeakers and sound being so prevalent in our societies.

To my knowledge there is not a generally accepted route towards qualification in loudspeaker and in particular loudspeaker transducer design! So where to turn?


One of the aim's of this book is therefore to bring together the essential knowledge in one place in an orgainised manner.
