The text seeks to elucidate concrete elements of that particular style and analyses the personality type predisposed to that look and what it says about them. "Eight Styles" encourages the reader to create his or her own personal interpretation or blend of the different "looks". The lifestyles featured include: the "Romantic", the "Urbanite", the "Colourist", the "Traditionalist", the "Purist", the "Bohemian", the "Free Spirit" and the "Collector".

Karen Roos developed her sense of style as a fashion editor at Glamour in New York, at Cosmopolitan and as a founder editor of Red magazine in South Africa. She recently studied fine art in Amsterdam and lives in Cape Town. Massimo Cecconi is a well-known Cape Town-based photographer whose work has appeared in numerous magazines as well as in Short Cuts to Storage.
