This book focuses on the experiences and perspectives of research volunteer tourists to fully explore whether perceptions of what constitutes the concept of volunteering is the same as the organization, and whether they perceive themselves in a volunteering role. Issues such as payment for experience and what the payment contributes towards are thoroughly explored for the first time. This book therefore moves beyond the topics of volunteer motivation providing further understanding and knowledge of volunteer perspectives across different aspects of the volunteering experiences.

Angela Benson is Principal Lecturer and Discipline Head for Tourism and Travel at the School of Service Management, University of Brighton. Her main research interests lie in the areas of volunteer tourism sector from the supply (the providing organisations) and demand (the volunteers) perspectives, enabling the dynamics of the sector to be determined. Other research activities include membership of the editorial board for the Journal of the Applied Sciences in Tourism (JAST) and the Journal of Educational Travel (JET), reviewer for a number of international journals and membership of various scientific committees.
