Located off the coast of Delaware City on Pea Patch Island lies the 160 year old Fort Delaware. The present structure was completed between 1848 and 1859 and became the largest fort of its day. Three years after its completion the fort and surrounding island were put to use as a prison for captured Confederate soldiers. Over 33,000 prisoners were held on the island by the end of the war; 2,400 died whilst in captivity.

Ed Okonowicz presents the haunted history of Pea Patch Island in this fantastically eerie tribute to Fort Delaware. He shares the stories of those island residents who died whilst imprisoned in the fort and who never got the chance to see freedom. Over 70 photographs bring to life the haunted locations that abound on the small stretch of land in the Delaware River. Included are comments by fort staff and visitors as well as tombstone rankings of the prison’s most‘active’ sites.

This is a fantastic guide to the supernatural world that inhabits a small Delaware island.
