Offers a glimpse into the world of the Mexico's upper classes (using photographs), whose ostentatious lifestyles stand in contrast to the poverty that characterises life in Mexico outside their gated mansions. Many of the subjects covered in this book are related to members of the PRI, which calls itself a 'revolutionary' party.
Rossell's luscious photographs afford a rare insider's glimpse into the world of the Mexico's upper classes, whose ostentatious lifestyles stand in stark contrast to the extreme poverty that characterises life in Mexico outside their gated mansions. Rossell's subjects are mostly women who pose for her in the extravagant surroundings of their homes. While they strike provocative poses, it is the setting of the photographs that is ultimately more expressive than the characters inhabiting them, offering a powerful statement about these women's statuses as dependants, wives and daughters. Rossell's images highlight Mexico's history of political corruption and misdemeanour. Many of her subjects are related to members of the PRI, which calls itself a 'revolutionary' party and has governed Mexico for most of the last 75 years.
