Richard Binns's acclaimed French Leave series began in 1980 and the guides regularly featured in the bestseller lists. Many of his articles on France have appeared in The Sunday Times and other national newspapers and magazines. He is the only English travel writer to have won a France Magazine Travelaureat and in 2002 he was awarded La Medaille d'Or du Tourisme by the French Government. Richard Binns died in December 2006.
