Venice - La Serenissima, or "the most serene" - is one of the most visited cities in the world. Famous for its winding canals, romantic gondalas, picturesque palazzos, and magnificent St. Mark's Square, Venice is truly a museum city where every building is a masterpiece. In "Insider's Venice", author D. Eric Maikranz explores little-known aspects of a selection of the city's famous and not-so-famous personalities and landmarks. His collection of captivating stories will make you pause, think and appreciate the city in its historical totality. From its centuries-long domination of the Mediterranean Sea to the adventures of Marco Polo, from the scandals of the Doges to colourful Carnival and from Casanova - the world's most famous libertine - to great artists, musicians and composers. "Insider's Venice" offers captivating insight into this truly unique city.

D. Eric Maikranz began his writing career with the Denver Post and later moved to Rome as a correspondent for UPI. Once there, he fell in love with the Eternal City. His passion and interest for Rome flourished and he later accepted a position as an English-language tour guide. Maikranz's short fiction has won awards in the United States and his next novel is to be published in 2005. He splits his time between the United States and Italy.
