Joshua Berman has been traveling to Nicaragua since 1998 when the U.S. Peace Corps assigned him there as an environmental education volunteer. After two years working with the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education and assisting with Hurricane Mitch relief efforts, Joshua teamed up with fellow Peace Corps compa ero, Randall Wood, to write the first fully comprehensive travel guidebook to the country: Moon Nicaragua (Avalon Travel, 2002). Over the next decade, Wood and Berman co-authored four editions of the book while maintaining their close personal ties to the country. Today, Joshua is a freelance writer, Spanish teacher, trip leader, and father of three, based in Boulder, Colorado. He travels to Nicaragua several times a year, either researching the travel industry or working as a production fixer for international television and film crews (Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, ESPN, Trans World Sport, to name a few). In addition to Moon Nicaragua, Joshua is the author of Moon Living Abroad in Nicaragua (coauthored with Randall Wood), Moon Colorado Camping, and Crocodile Love: Travel Tales from an Extended Honeymoon. Joshua writes a monthly travel column for The Denver Post; his articles have appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Yoga Journal, The New York Times, and Delta Sky. Joshua's website, The Tranquilo Traveler, is a celebration of slow travel, Colorado camping, and all things Nicaragua. Find him online @tranquilotravel or at www.joshuaberman.net.
