Guidebook to trekking the Pyrenean Haute Route, a tough 800km high-level trail through the central Pyrenees along the border ridge of France and Spain. The largely unwaymarked route is described in 45 day stages and is only suitable for experienced mountain walkers. Includes information on accommodation, variant routes and optional summit ascents.
The Pyrenean Haute Route is arguably the most spectacular and challenging trek in the Pyrenees. The 800km high-level route follows the main ridge of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean coast, crossing the French-Spanish border many times. It is a tough and unwaymarked route over remote and challenging terrain, and is suitable only for experienced and well-prepared trekkers. In this guidebook the trek is divided into 5 sections, with each section broken up into graded day stages. Numerous variants are also described, including a three-day alternative to avoid the third section for which mountaineering equipment is required.
The HRP is a serious undertaking and an unforgettable challenge and this guidebook includes all the practical information you need on facilities, accommodation and equipment. It also describes optional ascents of 10 classic summits in the Pyrenees: Grande Fache, Vignemale, Le Taillon, Pimene, Pic Perdiguere, Pico de Aneto, Montardo d'Aran, Mont Roig, Pic de Certascan and Pica d'Estats.
