The first 75 pages thoroughly explain grappa production, with appropriate background material on wine and distillation to put it into context with other spirits. Definitions are highlighted for those interested in the basics of grappa, and detailed explanations and illustrations are provided for those of us to like to know all the tiny technical details. The rest of the book is both a travelogue and a distillery guide, detailing how Boudin got from place to place (a lot of wrong turns, it seems) and then what he learned at each distillery when he arrived.
