Some twenty authors, academics and researchers from the Turin Faculty of Architecture have contributed to this guide devoted to the buildings of the Piedmontese capital and its surrounding territory. It spans every period of Turin's history, from the Roman and medieval city to that of the duchy of Savoy, featuring buildings from the Baroque period to the so-called corona di delitie - the system of castles and hunting lodges built in the seventeenth century. Every type of construction is included, from villas in the hills to the nineteenth century meadowlands, from workers' villages to Art Nouveau mansions, from factories to the fascist demolition enterprise, from post-war reconstruction to modern edifices. This guide, like its predecessors on Milan, Florence and Genoa, explores new themes associated with contemporary culture, restoration and relations with the environment, making it unique in its genre. There are ten introductory articles and some two hundred technical fact sheets, with details of how to get to the sites and specially commissioned photographs of all the buildings, giving a comprehensive account of Turin's monumental history.
