Discover Europe with the 'Only In' Guides - only the most beautiful cities and their unusual sights! The ideal city guides for travellers who want to escape the crowds and go beyond the well-known paths, as well as for those inhabitants who perhaps thought they already knew their city.
This book has been written for the explorer, the flâneur, and for all those who wish to discover Paris anew. A few minutes of planning and a glance at a street map will get the reader quickly off the beaten track, where they can experience a different city. This is the Paris of ancient ruins and underground worlds, of eccentric museums and idiosyncratic shops, of hidden communities and unusual places of worship.
- A comprehensive illustrated guide to more than 80 fascinating and unusual historical sights in one of Europe's great capital cities
- Quiet cloisters, eccentric museums, covered passageways, secret gardens, and unusual shops
- From the Parisii tribe and Roman Lutetia to the 'Sun King' and Napoleon
- The Pagoda cinema, the Museum of Magic, Foucault's pendulum, and a subterranean necropolis
- Comrade Lenin, the unconventional George Sand, Natalie Barney, and the restless Henri de Monfreid
