English contemporary photographers John Davies and Martin Parr were asked to elaborate on precise themes regarding the landscape and social aspects of Lake Garda. Davies is interested in the sense of power the landscape can symbolize. Parr focuses his attention principally on social customs.
Promoted by the Museo Civico de Riva del Garda, this project brings together two English contemporary photographers of international stature. The photographers were asked to elaborate on precise themes regarding the landscape and social aspects of Lake Garda. Martin Parr, a member of the Magnum agency, is an exponent of the school of reportage. He has contributed to reinventing social photography by use of irony, and focuses his attention principally on social customs. John Davies is interested in the sense of power the landscape can symbolize. Images of land, water and sky can become metaphors that reflect our emotional and spiritual states. Land can also represent power in terms of ownership and material wealth. His photographs portray this duality, and illustrate the drama of the mountainous landscape that dominates this part of Italy.
