London's Theatreland has always added a flash of colour to the capital, and remained a source of inspiration and cheer even in the shadow of world war. Commissioned by the Underground Electric Railways Company in 1915, this decorative map by renowned artist MacDonald Gill encouraged Londoners to continue enjoying life in the West End, and captures the vibrant spirit and sense of humour in which they took such pride even as the first aerial raids were bringing war to their very doorstep. Max Gill has been directing for the theatre since 2012 and has also written for film. Max was a finalist in the Royal Theatrical Trust Director's Award 2016: Royal Theatrical Finalists.
