Tort Law is an ideal main text for undergraduate tort law courses. The authors combine a lively, engaging writing style with a critical approach to the subject. This text uses innovative pedagogical features such as 'counterpoint' and 'pause for reflection' boxes to encourage students to think more deeply.
Tort Law provides a different approach to the study of tort. Written with students firmly in mind, it presents an engaging and accessible yet thought-provoking and critical account. Its analytical approach locates the law in its political and socio-legal context, exploring both practical and theoretical problems. The book's innovative use of pedagogical features (including 'pause for reflection' boxes and 'counterpoint' boxes) encourages students to engage with debates about the way tort law is and how it could be. Case boxes reflect the case-driven nature of tort, ensuring students are clear about the black-letter law. Chapter-opening problem questions are used to place the law in its practical context and to illustrate how to apply the theory. Annotated versions of the problem questions are placed at the back of the book to give students pointers on how to answer them, and outline answers are housed on the book's accompanying Online Resource Centre. Tort Law also provides diagrams and tables where relevant; chapter summaries; end-of-chapter questions; and annotated lists of further reading.
The authors' conversational and lively writing style engages students in the study of this essential subject. This text is divided into six parts: Introduction to tort, Negligence, Special liability regimes, Personal torts, Land torts and Damages and the purpose of compensation. Tort Law is fully up to date and includes recent cases and developments such as: - House of Lords decisions in Barker v Corus [2006]; Customs & Excise Commissioners v Barclays Bank [2006]; Grieves v FT Everard [2007]; A v Hoare [2008]; Smith v Chief Constable of Sussex Police [2008]; and Van Colle v Chief Constable of Hertfordshire Constabulary [2008] - Court of Appeal decision in Murray v Express Newspapers Plc [2008] - Mosley v News Group Newspapers [2008] - Compensation Act 2006. The book will benefit anyone seeking a fresh and stimulating account of tort law and will be essential reading for students studying tort at degree level or for the CPE/Diploma in Law. Online Resource Centre Tort Law is accompanied by an Online Resource Centre (www.oxfordtextbooks.co.uk/orc/horsey) which includes the following features: Twice-yearly updates to changes in cases and legislation.
